Mon
Back to Mac!
It was already Monday for me too soon, but I had a pretty chill and lax day at work. Nothing much happened and I mostly caught up on the things I needed to do, as well as a few emails. Work was nothing noteworthy and my time just passed.
I found some spare time in the day to go out to Glorietta and I decided to buy a new MacBook today! I was initially waiting for the new MacBook M5 models, but since the M6 models were going to have an OLED screen and that the new MacBooks won't get here until late November, I decided to bite the bullet and buy a new MacBook now, and then upgrade to an OLED MacBook somewhere down the line. Despite the heavy rain, I was able to book a ride to Glorietta and I initially went to Greenbelt to the Power Mac Center there. I thought it was a big store, so they definitely would have the exact MacBook model I wanted.
When I got to Power Mac Center, they told me that they didn't have the 16-inch MacBook model that I wanted. I asked for the 14-inch one, and they didn't have it either. In fact, they didn't have any of the M4 Macs and that they haven't had stock for a month now, which I found extremely weird considering how they're this high-end shop for Apple products. It just made me regret my trip back to Glorietta because I walked all this way for nothing. I then visited Switch Glorietta and they didn't have any M4 MacBooks either, just M3 ones, which I kind of cringed at. They told me to try Digital Walker next door and, while I had my doubts since their store seemed small and packed with other tech products, I was surprised that they had the model I was looking for. I wanted an M4 MacBook Pro and, sure enough, they had it in stock. They didn't have the 16-inch model, though, just the 14-inch ones. What's worse is that the only one they had in silver was a 16GB RAM one, even though my Dice work MacBook had 24GB of RAM before. The only 24GB model they had came in black. Yeesh. I wanted to buy a MacBook because I want to be a social climber and do my work at a Starbucks again, and having a black one where the Apple logo is barely visible isn't going to cut it. I had to make a decision on whether or not I'd sacrifice being vain for worse performance, or if I'll just go with the better option.
In the end, I just went with a black MacBook Pro with an M4 Pro chip. I just shook my head but whatever, I had to be happy with my option because this is the only one that was in stock. I set it up and I started to feel anxious because some goon might steal it from me, which didn't sit well with me because I read Reddit posts of people having their phones stolen at Greenbelt nearby. I just tried to set it up and the salesman recommended that I buy a screen protector for it. I went to the other store after buying my MacBook to have a screen protector installed and the salesperson told me that they also sold acrylic covers. I read online that both were bad for Macs, but I was already here so I couldn't refuse. I just chose to get the acrylic cover and went out of the store after buying it. I set up my Mac and then booked a Grab ride home, and I tried to download a few things while on the ride home.
When I got home, I still felt a bit upset that the silver color option I didn't have wasn't available. I read that getting the black one was prone to coating and scratching issues long term and that kind of made me regret my purchase. Still, this is a big accomplishment for myself. This is the first MacBook I own. Unlike the Dice work MacBook, I don't have to return this and this was actually my device. After setting it up and my sister ordering food, someone invited me to play Phasmophobia with them and we played 1 round before having me stream a video while they watch before going to sleep, just like how we were back in 2024. We just watched some analog horror and Left 4 Dead lore. Someone eventually disconnected from the call and I did other things. I posted an IG Story about getting my MacBook and I talked to a few friends, especially LK. I thought she was going to get married so I kind of congratulated her, and she found it odd because she wasn't going to get married. It was so funny because her friends posted this IG Story of her wearing a bridal veil and I thought that it was a sign that she would be married soon, and I can't believe it was just a prank. I found it so funny and I just asked LK to send me the a link to her future wedding registry so I could buy them a coffee maker.
For the rest of the evening, I mostly just set up my MacBook and published my past journal entries.
